Ghost is a Boston-born brand built around one idea: blanco tequila made from 100% blue agave in Jalisco, finished with a small touch of ghost pepper, one of the world’s hottest chillies. The result is not a novelty that burns. It starts like a clean blanco, sweet with cooked agave and citrus, and then the heat arrives, builds briefly and fades cleanly, leaving the agave behind.

It’s made to be shot straight, and that’s how many people drink it. It’s at its best, though, in cocktails, where it gives a spicy Margarita its kick without any chopping, muddling or infusing at home.

The bottle, with its skeleton rib cage and a red chilli where the heart should be, makes a strong gift for anyone who likes things hot.

How to serve

• Chilled, as a straight shot
• In a Spicy Margarita: tequila, fresh lime and agave syrup, shaken, with a chilli-salt rim
• In a Paloma with grapefruit soda, or a Ranch Water with lime and sparkling mineral water
• In a Bloody Maria, the tequila take on a Bloody Mary
