Château d'Yquem - Sauternes 1999 75cl
Château d'Yquem Description
A year of excesses: above-average temperatures, heavy rain in July and September that miraculously spared Yquem, and a tropical month of August. The situation called for considerable patience, but this was rewarded in October with dry weather, and the crop was able to be picked in two passes. The grapes were concentrated and very pure. 1999 is a lucky vintage which, thanks to skilful winemaking, is one of the best of the 1990s.
Wine Enthusiast: 98 Points
The aromas are so rich and powerful, with great ripe apricots. There are honey, spice and beautiful sweet spiced pears. This is an extraordinary wine in an extraordinary year in Sauternes. —Roger Voss,
Wine Spectator: 94 Points
The 1999 was particularly impressive for the vintage. It was superbly focused and beautiful on the nose, with sugared lemons, tropical fruit and maple syrup character. Full-bodied and thick, yet very fine, it was extremely sweet and long.
