Bushmills 1608 Anniversary Edition
Bushmills 1608 Anniversary Edition was released in 2008 to celebrate Bushmills’ 400th anniversary. It was on April 20, 1608, that King James I granted the Governor of Co Antrim a license to distil in the area. What makes this release even more interesting is the use of crystal malt in the grain bill. Crystal malt is traditionally used by brewers to add body and colour to their beers. When used at Bushmills, it resulted in a fuller flavoured spirit that takes on some jammy and caramelised flavours once matured. Master Distiller Colum Egan added a very, very small proportion of grain whiskey to the crystal malt to add a bit of balance.
