Casamigos Blanco Tequila 70cl

The house tequila that started with three friends and a long table in Mexico.

Casamigos (Spanish for “house of friends”) was founded by George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman. They spent years with their master distiller in Jalisco, holding blind tastings until they had a tequila smooth enough to drink without salt or lime. It began as what they poured at their own homes in Mexico. Today it is one of the best-known premium tequilas in the world.

It’s made from 100% Blue Weber agave, grown for seven to nine years in the red clay soil of the Jalisco Highlands. The piñas are roasted slowly in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours, much longer than the usual steaming. They then ferment for 80 hours, compared with the typical 48, using the distiller’s own yeast blend. The Blanco rests for two months in stainless steel before bottling, so it’s unaged in wood and the agave comes through clean and bright.

How to serve

• Neat or over ice, to taste the agave on its own
• In a Margarita: tequila, fresh lime juice, a little orange liqueur and agave syrup, shaken over ice
• As a Paloma, topped with grapefruit soda and a squeeze of lime
• With soda water and lime for a simple long drink
