Ramazzotti Sambuca 70cl
Classic Italian white sambuca from the Milan house behind Amaro Ramazzotti.
Ramazzotti’s story starts in Milan in 1815. That year a young herbalist, Ausano Ramazzotti, began blending herbs and spices in a small workshop. The bitter he created, Amaro Ramazzotti, became one of Italy’s best-known digestifs. The house later used the same skill with botanicals to make this sambuca.
It is a clear white sambuca built mainly on star anise, with a selection of herbs behind it. The nose is full of sweet anise and liquorice. The palate is rich and smooth, with a soft sweetness and a little fennel and gentle spice. The finish is warming, clean and lingers.
How to serve
- Con la mosca, the Italian way: a measure served neat with three coffee beans floating on top, said to stand for health, happiness and prosperity
- Over ice, or with a splash of cold water, which turns it cloudy as the anise oils come out
- After an espresso, or a dash added to the coffee itself as a caffè corretto
